The Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association reports "strong retail sales" after this season's big harvest.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said it would provide $530 million to support the seafood industry and fishermen impacted by "retaliatory tariffs from foreign governments."
Petersburg's borough government will ask the state to seek a disaster declaration for the economic losses from a dismal salmon season this summer.
Under the federal tariff relief program, fishermen will receive 16 cents per pound on their 2019 landings.
